DIRECTIONS
VISITING AUBURN
Auburn
Theological Seminary is located in a vital, thriving neighborhood of Manhattan.
A block north of Barnard College and across the street from the Columbia University
campus, Auburn shares a historic campus with Union Theological Seminary. Auburn
Hall, constructed in 1950, is home to most of Auburn's programming and events.
FROM MANHATTAN
If you are already in Manhattan, the easiest way to get to Auburn is by taxicab or subway. The #1 local train will take you to the nearest station, 116th Street (Columbia University).
At 116th Street Station: Walk up the stairs, make a left after the turnstiles and take the right stairway exit out of the station. You will now be on the west side of Broadway, walking North. Barnard College will be on your immediate left. Auburn Theological Seminary's entrance is at 121st St. and Broadway (open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week) - we share the campus with Union Theological Seminary.
Once you are on campus, AUBURN HALL is easily located. It is the building on the South end of campus, and can be accessed through the cloisters or the quadrangle.
Most of Auburn's educational programs convene in the STEWART ROOM, a spacious and comfortable conference room overlooking the campus quadrangle. The room, named after the late Auburn board member Tom Stewart, has capacity for 110 students and A/V capabilities.
The Stewart room is located on the third floor of Auburn Hall. From the front entrance of Auburn Hall walk through the student lounge and pass the bookstore entrance to the double stairwells. Walk up either side for two flights and you will find the Stewart Room.
There is an elevator nearby in the corridor of the Burke Library on the East side of the building. From the entrance cloister, bear left into the Burke Library rotunda, call the elevator and go up to the third floor. Make a left out of the elevator and walking toward the West you will eventually see the double stairwells and light blue doors for the Stewart Room.
FROM OUT OF TOWN
From Port Authority Terminal:
Uptown #1, and ride until you reach the 116th Street Station (10 stops).
From Pennsylvania Station:
Uptown #1 train. Take either of these trains for 11 stops until you reach the 116th Street Station (Columbia University).
From Grand Central Station:
The "S" or "Shuttle" train connects the Grand Central and Times Square Subway stations. Take this shuttle to Times Square and look for signs for the #1 train. Make sure to board the Uptown #1 train and proceed to the 116th Street Station (Columbia University).
From La Guardia Airport:
There are several ways to get to Auburn from LaGuardia. The most convenient is
by taxi cab, but this will cost you almost $30 in good traffic and more in slow
traffic. City law requires that you pay in advance for the toll at the Triboro
Bridge. A very good alternative is the Transit Authority's M60 bus that leaves
every half hour from LaGuardia and stops almost directly in front of Auburn. City
buses require exact change ($2 in coins, no bills) for entry. Commercial buses,
such as "Carey," connect all the major airports to Grand Central and Port Authority.
From JFK Airport:
The most convenient transportation from JFK is by taxi cab. It is very expensive (approximately $45) but will get you to Auburn quickly. Buses are available to take you from the terminal to the Subway. Board the "A" train at the Howard Beach stop. This train will take you all the way into Manhattan, a 45-minute ride. Stay on the A train until you get to 59th Street (Columbus Circle) Station. Change here to the #1 train going Uptown. Stay on this train until you reach the 116th Street Station (Columbia University).
From Newark Airport:
Taking a taxi cab from Newark can be expensive. The best way is to take a "Carey" bus to Port Authority Terminal and then take the Subway or a taxi cab from there. See above for information regarding travel to Auburn from Port Authority.
